Computer Engineering (C.E.) is based on sciences and technologies that are used in the design, construction, implementation and maintenance of hardware and software components of computer systems.
Traditionally, Computer Engineering has been considered as a combination of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, and is used to develop computer systems and computer-controlled equipment.
Employment opportunities
Graduates of the Computer Engineering degree can work in companies and institutions that design, verify, validate or develop hardware and software for electronic computer systems, such as: companies that manufacture or test integrated circuits, create complex devices that require electronic controls, develop equipment with human-machine interfaces, produce integrated circuits for embedded solutions, simulation software, and scientific application software based on complex mathematical models.
Currently, the list of companies that hire graduates of the Computer Engineering degree includes Intel Components, Avionyx, RidgeRun, HPE Costa Rica, Teradyne, Xeltron, CeNAT, as well as entrepreneurial initiatives such as Alt + Q Software, and Elyptik Technologies, and the demand for graduates is growing.
Program Rationale
The economic development of Costa Rica is based heavily on the attraction of foreign investment to the country and the generation of national companies in various areas of applied technology, including computing, electronics and their combination (Computer Engineering, C.E.). Graduates from the Computer Engineering (C.E.) degree will be active participants in this development, having a direct impact on our society.
Perfil profesional
Professionals in Computer Engineering are prepared to work in companies and public and private institutions where the innovative use of electronic computing technologies (software and hardware), plays a strategic role in achieving their mission.
They can design components and computer systems that involve the development of hardware and software modules, work as professionals in telecommunications companies that carry out manufacturing and the electronics industry in general. They can design or modify high-tech equipment, working in companies dedicated to manufacturing, design, validation and verification of microelectronic integrated circuits. They can also participate in establishing guidelines on social responsibility, ethics and regulatory standards in different areas of engineering that use electronic computing technology.
Facilidades
The Computer Engineering program has specialized faculty members who carry out research, outreach activities and teaching, who currently include 3 PhDs, 9 Masters and 7 Engineers.
