The School of Agronomy was created in October 1975 and began its academic activities in the first semester of 1976. The academic degree obtained by students when they complete their studies curriculum is a licentiate's degree, with a optional exit point that allows them to opt for a Bachelor's degree, both of them with the degree of Agricultural Engineer.
The primary purpose of the School is to train generalist professionals in Agricultural Engineering, considering agronomy to be the science that studies and improves production of crops and animals of zootechnical interest, and their interrelationships.
This science seeks to develop techniques and technologies capable of increasing performance of agricultural and livestock systems to improve production quality, efficiency and profitability while preserving soil fertility and proper environmental management.
During the course of their preparation, students develop theoretical and practical knowledge under the “learn while producing” model, which allows them to create a business mentality with a clear awareness of the socioeconomic and environmental contexts using a systems approach.
The mission of our School is to contribute to sustainable agricultural development and food security in the tropics through the training of human resources, research, and technology transfer. Constant self-evaluation of our performance as a trainer of human resources and creator of relevant and appropriate technology will allow us to maintain our visibility and influence at the national and international levels.
Given the great responsibility and permanent commitment the School has with the national community to offer a dynamic, high-quality education in accordance with the demands and needs of current and future society, it has been deeply involved in self-evaluation processes since its beginnings and is currently working to obtain accreditation from the Sinaes.

Agreements
Students of the Licentiate’s Degree in Agronomy can participate in student exchange programs with different universities outside the country. Among other benefits, this experience will allow them to learn about other cultures and assist them in carrying out their final graduation work or internships.

- México: the Universidad Autónoma de Chapingo and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
